About This Session

Join Drs. David and Rachael Hoffert to demystify the educational system for foster and adoptive parents.

Navigating the educational system can already seem overwhelming. As foster/adoptive parents we often wonder how much to communicate with teachers about our child’s current situation and how we can help the school understand that our child’s priorities may differ from other students. In this session, Drs. David and Rachael Hoffert will focus on how to nurture collaborative conversations with teachers and administrators about trauma, social anxiety, academic difficulties, and technology. Participants in this session will walk away knowing what supports to look for to help a child with trauma be most successful in school.

The Hofferts have three children (Ryun, Robinson, and Roosevelt), two of whom came to be part of the Hoffert family by means of adoption from Ethiopia. The Hofferts have also had the privilege of being guardianship parents. Due to their family experiences, the Hofferts feel passionate about working alongside adoptive and foster parents to navigate educational services and communication for school-age children.
